What window tint shade is right for your vehicle?
Selecting the right tint shade can be tricky. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Is the tint for style and looks?
- Is it to shield children or animals from heat or UV rays?
- Is it cover up valuables out of view?
From your answers to the questions our fully trained specialists are able to help you to select the right shade. Here are the 3 main shades available:
Light tint – This is a subtle tint providing protection from UV rays but allowing for full visibility even at night.
Medium tint – This is the same as the factory provides for many cars, it offers a safeguard from UV rays, heat and also adds a little privacy.
Blackout tint – This tint is our most commonly selected, it can safeguard from heat, UV rays and gives absolute privacy.
Which car windows are we able to tint?
We are often asked about this. To start with, let us describe how tint is measured.
The percentage given for a tint defines how much of the light is let through. Therefore a 20% tint allows 20% of light to pass through.
The legal limit on both the driver’s and the front passengers window is 70%. The windscreen is 75%. Which means the glass at the front must let 70-75% of the light through any installed tint. The vast majority of vehicles the come from the factory today come with tinted glass at almost (or close to) a 70% tint. Even though to some this glass doesn’t seem to be tinted, it actually is.
If you choose to get your front window glass tinted your penalties range from (click this link for details):
- A ‘prohibition notice’ stopping you using your vehicle on the UK road network unless you have the extra tint removed.
- A penalty notice and a summons by the court system.
Also, a factor to think about is your car insurance. By tinting the front windows of your car, it’s possible to invalidate your insurance.
It’s also against the law to install tint to a cars front windows, with heavy fines and penalties. Tinted is a trustworthy, respectable and reliable business that all clients rely on and as such we do not want to break the law. So we will not tint front windows.
We will happily tint any rear windows as dark as you wish, as there is no legal limit on rear window tints.
What type of tint do you use?
Not every window tint was created equal! The types of window tint available are:
This tends to be the cheapest product on the market, it fades, bubbles, and will likely go a blue or purple colour eventually. Its really not great, and we don’t recommend it.
This tint is also cheap. It is damaged by the rear window heater lines, which cause it to bubble. It can also interrupt radio reception. This isn’t a premium tint, and, will not last.
Carbon or Charcoal
Premium industry-standard window tint. It is what we usually use at Tinted, as it gives a great colour, its long lasting, does not get affected by heater lines and doesn’t affect the radio signals.
The greatest tint available, provided as our premium service. It has great longevity/colour, is not affected by heater lines, will not affect radio signal and gives the best UV/temperature protection.
Having said that, not all manufacturers of tint offer the same, after many years of experience, we have chosen what we have found to be the best brand available, and what is more, it is manufactured in Great Britain, meaning when you choose our services you’re supporting two UK businesses.
