Which window tint shade is right for your car?

Choosing the right tint shade can be tricky. Here are some things to ask yourself:

  1. Is the tint for style and looks?
  2. Is it to shield children or animals from things like heat & UV rays?
  3. Do you want keep valuables from view?

From your answers to the questions our trained specialists can help you to choose the correct shade. Below are the 3 main shades available:

Light tintThis is a subtle tint giving protection from UV rays but giving full visibility even at night.

Medium tintThis is how many cars come out of the factory, it offers a safeguard from UV rays, heat and does add a little privacy.

Blackout tint – This tint is the most widely selected, it provides a guard from heat, UV rays and gives complete privacy.

Which car windows is it possible for us to tint?

We’re regularly asked this question. Firstly, let us explain the way tint is measured.

The percentage given for a tint defines the amount of light that is allowed through. So, a 20% tint makes possible for 20% of light through.

The allowed legal limit on each of the driver’s & the front passengers window is 70%. The windscreen is 75%. Which means the glass at the front have to let 70-75% of the light through. Nearly all of vehicles made today come with tinted windows at already (or nearly) a 70% tint. Even though to some this glass doesn’t seem to be tinted, it actually is.

If you choose to get your front window glass tinted your penalties range from (click here for more details):

  • A ‘prohibition notice’ banning your vehicle being used on the UK road network unless you have the extra tint removed.
  • A penalty notice and a court summons.

Also, something to think about is your car insurance. By tinting the front windows of your car, it’s possible to nullify your insurance.

It’s also against the law to install tint to a cars front windows, with heavy fines and penalties. Tinted is a respectable, reliable and trustworthy company that all customers rely on and because of this we do not want to break the law. So we decided to not tint front windows.

We will happily tint any rear windows as dark as you wish, as there is no legal limit on rear window tints.

Which of the available tint do you use?

Not all window tint was created equal! The window tints available are:

Dyed/Dipped Window

This is often found be the cheapest tint on the market, it bubbles, fades, and normally goes a blue or purple colour eventually. Its really not great, and we don’t recommend it.

Metalized

This tint is also cheap. It is damaged by the rear window heater lines, which cause it to bubble. It can also disturb radio signals. This is not a good option, and, will not last.

Carbon or Charcoal

Premium industry-standard window tint. We choose to use this at Tinted, as it gives a great colour, longevity, is not affected by heater lines & does not affect the radio reception.

Ceramic

The greatest tint money can buy, provided as our premium service. It provides the best longevity/colour, the heater lines do not affect it, does not affect radio signals and gives the best temperature/UV protection.

Having said that, not all manufacturers of tint offer the same, after many years in the industry, we have chosen what we think is best brand available, and even better, it is manufactured in Great Britain, which means that when you choose our services you’re supporting two UK companies.
